Project "Oil spy 2.0"
Project "Oilspy 2.0"
The second version of a small and discrete mountable oil temperature control unit. At the beginning the way was the target. The way to build up an discrete circuit smaller and with a higher precision.
Some Z1 fans from the north of Germany hearedabout it and wanted to have it for their car. So I build up small serie of this little helper.
The Oilspy shows 4 ranges of the engine oil temeprature ( up to 60°C / 60° - 120°C / 120° - 140°C and above 140°C) with a LED in three differnt colors. The LED is mounted inside the control panel, so it's invisible, when ignition is switched off.
In the standard version the brightness of the LED is controlled automatical by switching on the light of the car, but there is the possibility to switch back to "daymode" by dimming the instrument lighting down to zero, that meight bne helpfull for driving with light by day.
The second version has an additional light sensor (also mounted inside the instrument panel) and switches the brightness of the LED automatical by detecting the daylight intensity.
The Oilspy is very flexible, so I can cange the switching temperatures as you like to have it, also the brightness of the LED is changeable and for a minimallistic version it's possible to show only the "dangerous" temperature ranges ( up to 60°C / 120° - 140°C / over 140°C) so that nothing is shown when the engine is in normal temperature range.
Ofcause the Oilspy is not only usabel in the Z1. It works in every car with 12V main power supply.
The prototypes are working since autumn 2011. After testing it in several cars in spring 2012 this Oilspy will be avalible.
